CBC looking for Family to house swap for March Break
- Details
Christine Maki, a producer at the CBC is looking for a Family outside the Green Belt to do a 1 week house swap with a family downtown for next week (March Break).
We're doing a special series, comparing life in different parts of Ottawa -- what you get and what you lose when you decide to live downtown, vs in the suburbs or in the rural parts. We were hoping to explore the tradeoffs, through an actual trade! We're asking two families -- one from outside the greenbelt, and one from downtown -- to trade places for a week.
I have been able to find a downtown family who's game, but I'm still looking for someone in the suburbs/rural area. It has to be a family with children, willing to be on the radio, and to relocate for the week of March Break (next week).

2 the Parkway – Site Plan Proposal
- Details
The developer of 2 the Parkway has submitted a Site Plan Proposal to build a 44 unit 7 storey condominium. This is less than ½ the size of the original re-zoning application which was approved by the city in 2013.
The Post Office building will be retained, although it is not clear if this will be retained long term or if a second 44 unit building will be built (e.g. Phase 2) at some point in the future. The developer has indicated that he is willing to consider ideas for businesses or services that would be pragmatic and commercially viable as tenants of the Post Office building on a long term basis.
Marianne Wilkinson will be discussing the proposal at her Town Hall meeting, March 9, 2015 at the Kanata Regional Library at 7 PM.
Comments need to be submitted prior to March 26, 2015 and the decision will be made on April 27, 2015.
The documents and drawings can be found here: DevApps 2 The Parkway Docs
And the application notice with dates, times, comment form, etc. here: 2 the Parkway Site Plan Notice

Beaverbrook Winter Walkability Audit - Sun, Feb 22
- Details
With more reasonable weather this coming Sunday, we've rescheduled the Walkability Audit.
Beaverbrook Winter Walkability Audit - Sun, Feb 22 1:30 PM @ Community Centre
In October 2014, volunteers completed a Walkability Audit in Beaverbrook to access the conditions of sidewalks, pathways and walking routes. Six different routes were evaluated, including routes to a local grocery store, area schools, and the library.
A winter audit is being planned for Sunday February 15, 2015 to revisit the routes in snowy and icy conditions. This event is being organized by the Kanata Beaverbrook Community Association, Ottawa's Council on Aging, and Ecology Ottawa, and is part of a city-wide effort to study walkability in various neighbourhoods.
Volunteers are needed for Sunday, February 15th and are asked to meet at the Beaverbrook Community Centre at 1:30 pm. Small groups will be provided with a clip board, a route map, and a survey checklist. Each group will be assigned a route of 1 to 2 km. Note takers will be provided for people who have mobility aids or who need assistance for some other reason.
